A place for everything, and everything in it’s place. It’s a good place to start anyway.
Keeping your home tidy is next to impossible without having a place for everything. “Where does this go?” the kids ask as they unload the dishwasher. “I don’t know…. Just put it anywhere.” Same story when we’re unpacking groceries.
The trick to organizing is in your weekly Zone Cleaning schedule. Once a week, I schedule a day to “organize drawers and cabinets”. This would also include shelves. 😉 Even if I just spend 15 minutes on it, I try and do something that will permanently keep that area more organized. Its’ not just a tidy-up job that will get undone the next time you need something from a drawer. Here’s an example from this last week:
This last week, “Kitchen and Dining” zone, the pantry was my mission. I hate things getting lost in the back of the pantry (or in the back of the fridge). I needed an *affordable* way to be able to see everything at a glance. I found some clear plastic containers for $1.99 each and decided I could splurge for that. I put taller containers behind the shorter ones so that I could see all of the labels. I’ll use it for a while and see what works best. and then my next round or two in my “Kitchen and Dining” zone, I’ll print out some pretty, clear labels and tackle the rest of the pantry. For now I’m feeling pretty darn good about it.
